Job Description
The Lead - Engineering Operations is responsible for guiding engineering design and development activities to meet stringent product specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. This role involves leadership of multi-disciplinary teams including mechanical, electrical, software, and controls engineers to develop and commercialize advanced electromechanical systems. The role requires collaboration across product management, manufacturing, service, and procurement teams to ensure smooth project execution and timely delivery. The individual also plays a pivotal role in vendor development, risk management, and product sustenance. With a hands-on approach, the Lead supports prototype assembly, testing, and technical evaluations while fostering a high-performance team culture.
Responsibilities (300 words in bullets)
- Lead and oversee design efforts, ensuring products and systems meet all internal, external, and regulatory standards.
- Manage design reviews, approve releases of designs, drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) through PLM and change notice processes.
- Provide leadership and guidance to direct reports, ensuring achievement of project milestones and quality goals.
- Facilitate communication of project status, design updates, and prototype progress across cross-functional teams and external suppliers.
- Support procurement in vendor identification, technical evaluations, vendor qualification audits, and ongoing supplier development.
- Conduct hands-on prototype assembly, integration, and testing to validate designs and support product verification and validation activities.
- Collaborate with project management to develop realistic schedules, resource plans, budgets, and project scopes.
- Perform techno-commercial evaluations for procurement of prototype parts, test components, development tools, and software.
- Stay current with emerging engineering technologies and industry trends, applying this knowledge to improve product design and business outcomes.
- Manage direct report activities including expense approvals, travel, performance reviews, training, and career development plans.
- Mentor engineering staff, foster teamwork, and encourage communication and organizational excellence within the team.
- Lead risk management activities, including risk file control, assessment, and mitigation for commercialized products.
- Support manufacturing and service functions by addressing deviations, failure analysis, process improvements, and escalated customer complaints.
- Oversee root cause analysis for returned parts and coordinate corrective actions.
